Travertine is pretty. I just put it in my bathroom by myself. I like the variety of the colors and along with a matching mosiac, it rocks. (no pun intended). But travertine may not stand the wear and tear of daily life.(pointy heels could ***** it). Marble and granite are pretty tough. All these stone tiles are beautiful and relatively easy to install. Visit a tile store and look around. It’s alot of fun. A word to the wise though, if you plan on staying in your house awhile, do the tile. If not, go with hardwood or laminate. That’s what selling now.
We did a ceramic tile on the first floor of our house. Not a shiny glazed one that you’d find on a backsplash or bathroom, but a regular floor tile. Ours is made by Daltile (one of the better brands) and is a brownish stone color. We got a darker grout than the tile to make it look more natural and we love it. Being more like stone, it is not perfectly flat. It has a slight texture.
The only thing that I would have done differently is that I would have floated the floor instead of adhering it directly to the slab. I’m in the midwest and the tile gets cold in the winter. A floating floor would have been a lot more work, but it would have prevented that.
