Shared childrens bathroom theme ideas?

We are moving into a new house next month. One bathroom will be the bathroom the kids will be sharing. The kids spend the night 4 days out of the month with us. We want a theme that isn’t too gender-centric. I.E. Hannah Montana or Spider Man. The kids will be 7 and 9. We also want a theme that we can easily ‘grow’ with them. I was thinking maybe a beach-themed bathroom? Ideas? We’re on a tight budget, so if anyone can suggest some DIY that would be great. Thanks!

paint the walls with the best latex paint you can afford . then let the kids draw on it with those markers like at diners .
A beach theme seems a little femine to me. I would do something graphic in primary colors.

I love world map shower curtians for kids like this one: You could accesorize with blue accessories.
When i was little, i think the kids bathroom was like sea themed. Probably painted blue, with colourful animals stuck on the wall like octupuses and dolphins etc. You could try and get some cartoon charactered towel hooks and stuff too.

a beach theme was first thing that popped into my mind. but at their ages, you dont want a pail & shovel beach theme. Surfing is very cool to this age group, so make it fun & 3-D. My kids (boy & girl) are only a few years older and this is the theme I have in their shared bathroom–what is great is since it isn’t too juvenile, it doubles as a guest bathroom just fine.
Scour discount stores for surfboard shaped photo frames or other like decor. Or make your own out of construction paper or scrapbook paper. I used a beach bag to hang the spare towels in–I even slung a pair of cheap flip flops “hanging out of the bag”. My walls are turquoise and the shower curtain is simple stripes in primary colors. Red accents look awesome with the sea-inspired wall color. Think big red striped umbrella at the beach.
Use coconut scented shampoo or hand soap to further enhance the experience. Collect sea shells as a family activity and maybe even some sand. Make some bottle art for decor. Awesome to use family memories as decorations!
Dont forget a cheap bamboo rug for in front of the shower—and youre all set!
