Built-in dishwasher won’t fill with water or spin?

We have a dishwasher that’s built-in to the house under the kitchen counter, and when I turn it on it makes noise, but the spinny thing doesn’t spin and no water goes in there. It’s pretty gross looking but I wouldn’t know how to clean it out or anything. Is there a simple DIY method of fixing this problem or do I gotta hire a specialist? Thanks

time to hire a repair man.so you can have your dishwasher back.
OK make sure the water is turn on, take a pitcher of water and fill the bottom of the dishwasher then run it. if it dose not run then you should replace the unit. it is cheaper to replace it than fix it. now if it works run a cycle or two and then add soap and let it clean it self out after its done you may have to wipe the inside out.
it sounds like the water fill valve is bad.it,s right under the acess panel on bottom of washer,if it,s more than 5years old it,s cheaper to replace it
check the float it inside the tub up front on the left or right side looks top hat left up & down you should hear a swith click then try to run the dishwaser & see if it fills with water if not bad fill valve.
If none of the earlier suggestions work, try going to and click on Repair Help at the top of the page. It will help you diagnose the problem and if you need parts will sell you the parts with instructions on how to install them.
